Lyman Lake State Park

Lyman Lake State Park centers on a 1,500-acre reservoir in the foothills of the White Mountains, with room for boating, fishing, hiking, and broad lake views. The park was created around an irrigation reservoir on the Little Colorado River, and one standout side trip leads to an Ultimate Petroglyph site across the water.

Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest

More than two million acres spread across eastern Arizona, giving day-trippers easy access to lakes, streams, scenic drives, and high-country trailheads near Eagar. Elevation climbs from desert foothills to peaks above 11,000 feet, so the landscape changes fast. Water stands out here, with 24 lakes and reservoirs across the forest.

Becker Lake Wildlife Area

Becker Lake Wildlife Area pairs open water with wet meadow, riparian habitat, and grassland, creating one of the area’s strongest wildlife watching spots. The 107-acre lake is one of the White Mountains’ oldest reservoirs, first built in 1880, and the setting works well for a quiet walk, birding session, or easy boating outing.

Wenima Wildlife Area

Wenima Wildlife Area offers an easy way to spend time along the Little Colorado River in a setting known for birds and riparian scenery. Two hiking trails reach both streamside and upland areas, where sightings can include bald eagles, kingfishers, warblers, mule deer, and pronghorn during the right season.

West Baldy Trail

West Baldy Trail is one of the area’s standout high-country hikes, climbing through forest and open meadows toward the slopes of Mount Baldy. The route is about 14 miles round trip, so it fits a full day outside. Along the way, the elevation rises from roughly 9,300 feet to more than 11,400 feet.

Sunrise Park Resort

Sunrise Park Resort is a year-round mountain destination in the White Mountains, known in winter for Arizona’s largest ski area and in warmer months for lift-served downhill biking, scenic chairlift rides, and zip lines. The resort spans three mountains, giving the setting a big alpine feel that stands out in eastern Arizona.
